The Trauma of Everyday Living

If there is one thing I know for sure, it is that being human is hard.

How do I know this? Well, to start – I am one; I am human.  Despite the most spectacular of days, life never fails to feel challenging at best and excruciating at worst. I also know this because I am a doctoral trained clinical social worker and have specialized in trauma for over 15 years. In my psychotherapy practice and for the dozen of years before that, I had the great privilege of bearing witness to humanity’s most painful life experience and the most beautiful.

You don’t need to be a clinician and versed in the theory of trauma to know it. That is because by virtue of being human, we know trauma.

Life is hard and we can do hard things.
